If you have tried running ads on Google but did not seem to find success, it may be that your campaigns were not properly optimized to give you the best results.

In this blog post, we go over different AdWords hacks that will give your campaigns the best chance for success. While there are many tips that we could discuss, this blog post goes over the ones that you NEED to know and the ones we see people not implementing most often.

Keywords Hacks

Target [your business type] near me or [your business type] [location]

If you are a dentist in Raleigh, NC then you would want to include the following in your keyword list: dentist near me, Dentist Raleigh NC. This is not a comprehensive keyword list.

Location/Language Targeting

Make sure that you are targeting the location(s) and language(s) that are relevant to your business. For location, you can target by country, state, city, or a certain mile radius around a physical location. This tip may seem simple, but it will save you a lot of money from people clicking on your ads who are not near your business.

Quality Score Factors

Quality score is what determines if your ads show, ad position and how much you’ll be charged. Quality score is based on the following factors: click-through rate (CTR), ad relevance and landing page experience.

To optimize for a high click through rate on your ads, you want to split test your ad copy. This means you will test different versions of an ad to see which ad gives the best results. To improve both CTR and ad relevance, you want to make sure the keywords you are targeting closely match the ad copy. For example, if you offer facials and massages then you will create separate ads for those services. You will also target specific keywords to each service.

To ensure a great landing page experience, make sure the landing page is closely related to the ad copy and/or keywords you are targeting. If your ad is about facials, the landing page should not be about all your services. Instead, the ad should go to a page specific to facials. An even better choice would be for your ad to go to a dedicated sales funnel for facials. Read this blog post for more information on sales funnels: Sales Funnels For Beginners. Your ads should NEVER go to the homepage of your website.

You also want to ensure that your landing page is mobile friendly. Over half of clicks on ads come from mobile devices. It is important that your landing page shows up correctly and is functional on a mobile device. People will leave your website immediately if they can’t properly see or use your website. Use this free tool by Google to check: Mobile Friendly Test.

These are just a few of the many ways to improve your quality score and lower ad costs.

Lead Capture/Conversion Tracking

Your landing page should have a way to track leads or conversions. You can do this by setting up conversions through AdWords by inserting conversion code on the pages where a lead or purchase occurs. If you do not currently have conversion tracking in place, you will not know which campaigns, ad groups, or ads are bringing in new leads or customers. You will not be able to measure campaign success or know how the money you are spending is affecting your business.
